UGLASS

Hanyang University Architecture Building

Architect : Space group

Product : P26/60/7, 504Perl, Sanding

The U-glass installed on the exterior of the Hanyang University Building of Architecture serves a functional role by allowing uniform light to enter the windows arranged at regular intervals,

while also providing a sense of classical stability to the facade.

To prevent the facade from becoming monotonous, the Hanyang University Building of Architecture has arranged the U-glass asymmetrically in a stepped manner.

A subtle mint-colored band of U-glass, starting from the lower-floor lobby, climbs up the right side of the building in a stepped fashion to the upper floors.

This translucent mass provides visual breathing room between the solid, opaque stone exterior walls,

while simultaneously serving as a clue that subtly hints at the flow of vertical circulation (stairs and common spaces) to the outside.

The Hanyang University Building of Architecture is a clever piece of architecture that infuses an "asymmetrical sense of rhythm" through the translucent material of U-glass within strict geometric rules (Grid).

It can be considered an excellent architectural textbook in itself, demonstrating firsthand to students how rules and variations can coexist.
